Big Art’s Breakfast Burritos in Chatsworth: Is This One of the Best Breakfast Burritos in Los Angeles?

If you’re searching for a breakfast burrito in Chatsworth that is loaded, filling, and packed with flavor, Big Art’s Breakfast Burritos is a local spot worth knowing.

Originally started as a pop-up in North Hills, Big Art’s has now opened a brick-and-mortar location in Chatsworth on Devonshire Street. The menu goes far beyond the typical egg-and-potato breakfast burrito, with options featuring carne asada, bacon, chorizo, chilaquiles, French toast, and more.

So, does Big Art’s actually serve one of the best breakfast burritos in the San Fernando Valley? We stopped by to find out.

From a Cooler of Breakfast Burritos to a Chatsworth Restaurant

Big Art’s Breakfast Burritos began about six years ago with a simple idea.

The owner started with a cooler full of breakfast burritos and began selling them at a park. Even during the challenges of the pandemic, he continued serving the community.

That early experience became about more than just selling food. Hospitality became an important part of the business, with the goal of making customers feel welcome whether they were stopping by the pop-up, walking their dogs, heading to work, or taking their kids to school.

The original North Hills pop-up eventually built a loyal following, and Big Art’s has now expanded with its Chatsworth brick-and-mortar location.

The King of the Burritos: Carne Asada

One of the standout options at Big Art’s is the carne asada breakfast burrito.

The idea behind it goes back to the beginning of the business. The owner had leftover carne asada from a Sunday barbecue and decided to combine it with scrambled eggs and hot sauce the following morning.

That simple combination became one of the restaurant’s signature burritos.

The carne asada burrito includes eggs, carne asada, mozzarella cheese, tater tots, pico de gallo, and avocado salsa, all wrapped inside a warm tortilla.

It’s also seriously large.

If you’re looking for a breakfast that can keep you full for hours, this is the kind of burrito that makes a strong case for itself.

A Breakfast Burrito With Tater Tots

Tater tots are one of the ingredients that give Big Art’s burritos a little something different.

Rather than adding traditional crispy potatoes, the tater tots bring a soft, hearty texture to the filling while adding another layer to every bite.

Combined with fluffy eggs, carne asada, cheese, salsa, and a warm tortilla, the result is a burrito with several different textures packed into one meal.

When Pigs Fly: The Bacon Burrito

Another popular option is the “When Pigs Fly” burrito.

The name came from the addition of bacon to the menu. According to the owner, customers kept asking how a breakfast burrito business could operate without having a bacon option.

The customers eventually got their wish.

The bacon burrito became part of the menu and is now one of the options customers regularly come back for.

Chorizo and Other Creative Combinations

Big Art’s menu continued evolving as the business grew.

Chorizo became another addition, after a fellow vendor suggested incorporating it into the breakfast burritos.

From there, the menu continued getting more creative.

One of the biggest examples is the chilaquiles breakfast burrito.

The Chilaquiles Breakfast Burrito

If you’ve never had chilaquiles inside a breakfast burrito, Big Art’s offers its own take on the combination.

The chilaquiles burrito includes cheese, egg, tater tots, and a special sauce made specifically for the chilaquiles.

It’s a combination that stands out from a traditional breakfast burrito and has become a popular menu item.

A French Toast Burrito?

Big Art’s doesn’t stop with savory breakfast burritos.

The restaurant also has a French toast burrito, created after employees wanted to experiment with something sweeter.

Instead of the more familiar pancake burrito, they went with French toast, cinnamon, and powdered sugar.

It may sound unusual, but according to the restaurant, the creation has become a fan favorite.

It’s also a good example of how Big Art’s has built a menu around experimenting with different breakfast flavors.

Inside the Big Art’s Kitchen

During our visit, we got a closer look at how the signature carne asada breakfast burrito comes together.

The process starts with the tortilla.

Big Art’s works with Golden Burrito to produce its tortillas. The owner says they worked together to develop a tortilla with the color, texture, and consistency they wanted for the burritos.

The tortilla is warmed on the grill before mozzarella cheese, eggs, carne asada, and tater tots are added.

Pico de gallo and avocado salsa bring additional flavor to the filling.

Once everything is inside, the burrito is carefully folded and grilled again for a short time before it’s wrapped and served.

The final result is a large, hot breakfast burrito with a lightly golden tortilla holding everything together.

What Does the Carne Asada Burrito Taste Like?

The carne asada breakfast burrito delivers a combination of soft eggs, tender carne asada, cheese, tater tots, and salsa.

The tortilla has a golden exterior without being overly crunchy or flimsy, giving the burrito enough structure while remaining easy to bite into.

The tater tots add texture, while the carne asada brings a hearty, savory element.

Adding the homemade red salsa gives the burrito an extra kick.

And then there’s the size.

This is not a small breakfast you grab when you’re only a little hungry. Big Art’s portions are substantial, making it the kind of meal that can easily carry you through much of the day.

Freshly squeezed orange juice is also available to pair with the burrito.

Where Can You Find Big Art’s Breakfast Burritos?

Big Art’s Breakfast Burritos now has its brick-and-mortar location in Chatsworth on Devonshire Street, near the Chatsworth train station.

The business also continues to have its original North Hills location near Devonshire Street and Sepulveda Boulevard.

Both locations offer the same menu, so you have options depending on which part of the San Fernando Valley you’re coming from.

For Chatsworth residents and anyone exploring the San Fernando Valley food scene, the new location makes it easier to try the burritos without heading to the original North Hills pop-up.

Is Big Art’s One of the Best Breakfast Burritos in Los Angeles?

“Best” is always going to come down to personal taste, but Big Art’s certainly offers something beyond a standard breakfast burrito.

The portions are generous, the menu has plenty of variety, and the restaurant has built its reputation around creative combinations and a strong connection with its customers.

From the classic carne asada burrito to the chilaquiles and French toast options, there’s plenty to explore if you’re looking for something different.

And for anyone who believes a great breakfast burrito should be big, flavorful, and filling, Big Art’s makes a strong addition to the San Fernando Valley food scene.
